Comprehensive and executive packages add HbA1c, thyroid function, electrolytes, uric acid, CRP, an ECG and referrals for chest X-ray and abdominal ultrasound. An annual health check-up is the cheapest piece of preventive medicine you will ever buy. Most of the conditions that shorten life in adults (high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, fatty liver, early kidney disease, thyroid disorders and some cancers) are silent for years before they cause symptoms, and almost all of them are easier to treat the earlier they are found. Our packages are built around the same screening guidelines used by the US Preventive Services Task Force, the World Health Organization and NICE, but priced and timed for residents and visitors in Patong who want answers the same day.

Why annual health screening matters

The point of screening is to catch disease in the window where it is reversible or controllable. Hypertension, dyslipidaemia (high cholesterol), prediabetes and fatty liver typically have no symptoms until they cause a heart attack, stroke or organ damage. A simple fasting blood draw, a blood pressure cuff and a urine dipstick will pick up most of them years in advance. The same is true for anaemia, thyroid disease, early chronic kidney disease and some cancers: a 60-minute visit can change the trajectory of the next 20 years.

Clinical insight: Screening only adds value when it changes a decision. We follow USPSTF and NICE guidance on age and risk-based screening, which means we do not run tests just because they are on a price list. If you are 28, well, with no family history, the Basic package is the right starting point. From 35, the Executive package covers the high-yield additions (HbA1c, full liver and thyroid panels, ECG, abdominal ultrasound) where the evidence is strongest.

Our screening packages

Every package starts with a doctor consultation covering personal history, family history, lifestyle, current medications and any symptoms, followed by a focused physical examination. The blood and urine tests are then chosen to match age, sex and risk. Pricing is fixed per package and quoted on WhatsApp before you commit.

What happens at the visit

You arrive fasting (10 to 12 hours, water is fine). The nurse records your height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure in both arms, pulse and visual acuity. The doctor takes a structured history covering personal and family medical history, current medications, alcohol, smoking, sleep and exercise, then performs a focused physical examination including heart, lungs, abdomen, thyroid and lymph nodes. Blood is drawn (usually two to three small tubes), a urine sample is collected, an ECG is recorded if your package includes one, and you are referred to BPK Hospital Phuket for chest X-ray or abdominal ultrasound where indicated. The whole on-site visit takes 60 minutes for Basic and 2 to 3 hours for Executive, including time for the doctor to discuss preliminary findings with you before you leave.

Results, follow-up and the screening calendar

Basic blood and urine results are usually back within the same day. Specialised tests (HbA1c, full lipid panel, thyroid function) return in 24 to 72 hours, and your full bilingual Thai/English report is emailed within 5 working days. The report is ICD-10 coded and accepted by AXA, Allianz, Cigna, Bupa, MSH and IMG for reimbursement and underwriting. We deliver results to you via WhatsApp and email only, and we do not share them with employers or insurers without your written consent. The screening intervals we recommend follow the major guidelines: blood pressure every 3 to 5 years from age 18 (annually if borderline), a lipid panel every 4 to 6 years from 40 to 75, HbA1c every 3 years from 35 to 70 if overweight, colorectal screening from 45 to 75, cervical screening as in the women’s package above, biennial mammography from 40 to 74, and annual low-dose CT for lung cancer in adults 50 to 80 with a 20 pack-year smoking history.

When an abnormal finding needs urgent action

Most abnormal screening results are mild and managed with lifestyle change, repeat testing or an outpatient referral. A small minority cross thresholds that require same-day intervention rather than a follow-up appointment in two weeks. We will tell you on the day if any of these apply to you.

Red flag, treat the same day if any of these are found:

Random glucose above 25 mmol/L or fasting glucose above 13.9 mmol/L with symptoms (possible diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar state). Blood pressure above 180/110 mmHg with any symptom (headache, chest pain, visual change). New chest pain, shortness of breath or an ECG showing ischaemia, atrial fibrillation or a complete heart block. Haemoglobin below 8 g/dL or active bleeding. Suspected microalbuminuria or proteinuria with high blood pressure (early kidney damage). Visible blood in urine without an obvious cause. A breast lump, suspicious mole or thyroid nodule found on examination. These are reasons to start treatment or arrange hospital assessment immediately, not to wait for the full report.

See a doctor if:

You are over 35 and have not had a check-up in the last three years, you have a first-degree relative with diabetes, heart disease or cancer before age 60, you are starting a new job that needs a certificate, or you are planning marriage or pregnancy. WhatsApp +66 95 073 5550 for a package quote and an appointment slot. Walk-ins are welcome but pre-booking lets us prepare your fasting bloods and any referrals in advance.

Prevention and what to do with the results

A screening report is only as useful as the change it triggers. If your lipid panel, HbA1c or liver enzymes are creeping up, the highest-yield interventions are well established: at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity (the American Heart Association and WHO threshold), two sessions of resistance training, a Mediterranean-style or DASH-pattern diet, alcohol within national low-risk limits, complete smoking cessation, and 7 to 9 hours of sleep. We provide brief written counselling in your report and can arrange follow-up appointments to track progress.

Prevention point: The two cheapest interventions with the largest payoff are blood pressure control and smoking cessation. If your BP is consistently above 140/90 mmHg or your HbA1c is in the prediabetes range (5.7 to 6.4 percent), book a 20-minute follow-up six weeks after lifestyle change to recheck. Most people do not need lifelong medication if they catch these early.

Summary

A well-targeted check-up takes one morning, costs less than a weekend dinner, and is the single best-value piece of medicine we offer. Choose the Basic package if you are young and well, the Executive if you are 35 or older or have any cardiovascular risk, and add the women’s, men’s, pre-marriage or pre-employment modules as needed. Results are fast, the report is bilingual and insurer-ready, and the recommendations are tied to specific actions you can take that week.

“The patients we wish we had seen five years earlier are not the dramatic ones, they are the quiet ones whose blood pressure or sugar drifted upward without anyone noticing. A 60-minute check-up every year or two is enough to catch all of that.”

Frequently asked questions

How much does a health check-up in Patong cost?

Our packages are fixed-price and significantly cheaper than equivalent screening at a private Phuket hospital, with no add-on consultation fees once the package is booked. WhatsApp us at +66 95 073 5550 for current Basic, Executive, women’s, men’s, pre-marriage and pre-employment rates. We issue itemised receipts for insurance reimbursement.

Do I need to fast before the check-up?

Yes for most packages. Plan on 10 to 12 hours of fasting before your visit because fasting glucose and the lipid panel are part of every package. Plain water is fine and you should still take your usual prescription medications unless we have told you otherwise. Tea, coffee, juice and chewing gum break the fast.

How long does the visit take?

About 60 minutes for the Basic package and 2 to 3 hours for the Executive package, including consultation, examination, blood draw, urinalysis, ECG where included, and a preliminary discussion before you leave. The chest X-ray and abdominal ultrasound referrals at BPK Hospital Phuket are usually scheduled for the same morning.

What age should I start having annual check-ups?

A baseline check is reasonable in your 20s, particularly if you have any family history of diabetes, heart disease or cancer. From age 35 the evidence for annual or biennial screening with the Executive package is much stronger because cardiovascular risk factors, diabetes and fatty liver become common and remain reversible at this stage.

Will I get a certificate I can use for work, a visa or marriage?

Yes. Our pre-employment, pre-marriage and visa medical packages produce a signed and stamped certificate accepted by Thai government offices, embassies, employers and immigration. If you need a specific format (for example a particular country’s work permit form or an airline medical), tell us at booking and we will use the correct template.

Will my international insurance cover the check-up?

Most international plans (AXA, Allianz, Cigna, Bupa, MSH, IMG) cover preventive screening within an annual allowance. Our bilingual, ICD-10 coded report and itemised receipt are designed for direct submission. Coverage of pre-employment and visa medicals is plan-specific, so check the wording before you book if reimbursement matters.
